Nonprofits Continue Outreach A Year Later


Daryl Hersh and her Ozer Ministries was one of several nonprofits continuing outreach to East Palestine residents in the village and surrounding communities impacted by last year's Norfolk Southern train derailment. Sign outside Fuller's True Value on North Market Street displays thanks for a year of support. Terry Worker fills a bag provided by Ozer Ministries at the Way Station on Saturday. The Way Station and other nonprofits held a community outreach event at the nonprofit's East Palestine location for residents in the village and surrounding communities impacted by last year's Norfolk Southern Train Derailment.

Chaplain John Hersh (Tobin Center)


Chaplain John Hersh, known as Chap at the Tobin Center, grew up in East Palestine, Ohio. After his high school graduation, Chap went to OSU for a yr before finishing his degree in Business Administration at Youngstown State University. After YSU, John went to Chicago to Mortuary School where he met and later married his wife, Daryl. They have been married for 56 yrs.


In their early years of marriage there were struggles and they sought help from the lord and he directed them to serve as ministry counselors to help others. That was 36 yrs ago. Chaplain John was asked to sit on the Chaplaincy Board at the Tobin Center and he has been with us faithfully for the last 29 years.

35 Years of Dedication: Ozer Ministries Directors Honored by East Palestine Chamber


On January 15, 2024, the East Palestine Chamber of Commerce presented a milestone award for 35 years of service to John and Daryl Hersh, Directors of Ozer Ministries. Yearly art exhibition highlights the issue of domestic violence.


The annual art show, hosted in a local community, has brought attention to the critical issue of domestic violence through creative expression. Organized with the purpose of raising awareness and promoting dialogue, the event showcased a diverse range of artworks that powerfully conveyed the impact of domestic violence on individuals and families. Through thought-provoking exhibits, the show aimed to foster understanding, empathy, and support for survivors, while emphasizing the need for collective action to address and prevent domestic violence within the community.

Domestic Violence: Men – It Happens to Us Too

“Domestic Violence: Men – It Happens to Us Too” is the theme for the 8
th and final Annual Artisans Against Domestic Violence Art Exhibit. You are invited to join us on Saturday, August 26th from 4:30-8:30 pm at the East Palestine Country Club, 50834 Carmel Achor Rd, Negley, Ohio.



There will be artwork to view, some of which may be for sale. We will have raffles with themed baskets containing various gift cards and gift certificates. This event will include appetizers and beverages, favors and live entertainment. East Palestine Support Group

Ozer Ministries will be facilitating a faith-based support group for anyone still dealing with the emotional and spiritual aftermath of the train derailment. The support group will be held on the second Monday of each month with the first group meeting
Monday evening, August 14th from 6:30 – 7:30 pm. The location will be the First Church of Christ, 20 West Martin Street in East Palestine. Light refreshments will be served.


Faith-based counseling for residents affected by the train derailment is also offered by Ozer Ministries. For questions or to get more information, call Ozer Ministries at 330-426-2147. Funding provided by the East Palestine Community Foundation.

EP SUPPORT GROUP FUNDING

EP support group funding The East Palestine Community Foundation realized that the residents of East Palestine and the surrounding areas were impacted far more than initially recognized by the February train derailment. Financial compensation and supplies were provided but it also affected residents’ spiritually and emotionally. Ozer Ministries submitted a grant application and received funding to provide a monthly faith-based support group, counseling for those individuals desiring assistance and the planning of a community healing event in February of 2024. Ozer Ministries was founded by John and Daryl Hersh in 1987. They both have extensive experience in working with trauma and want to give back to the community they love in order to provide “hope, healing and the power of change.” Ozer Ministries can be contacted by calling 330-426-2147.
