"Breathing Your Way Through..." (Connie J...)
With all that has gone on in the world, especially, this last year; breathing has proven to be a vital word, thought, and deed.
I believe MANY people in this world have been holding THEIR breath for a very long time; especially those living in a Domestic Violence situation - and not just this past year - it's been generations.
As Brene Brown told Oprah, on Super Soul Sunday, "Calm people are breathers. People come at them, and they pause, take it in, and try to figure out if they have enough data to freak out, or not. They ask questions, 'Who said what? ', 'Who are they?', etc."
Unfortunately, this has been going on for so long, that sure, people are done, over it, ready for change; but many tend to talk AT others, instead of TO them - a classic example of control, in Domestic Violence.
This is one place healing can start - with conversation. One person listening, to understand, NOT RESPOND, as another talks.
To start breathing in sync with each other.
As I have said, before, I may be naive; but I BELIEVE in change for our world - healing from the hurts of the past.
If I hadn't worked through all the pain that I've worked through, I would probably be a "non-believer" in the healing process, also; but I have seen what CAN be - and lived to tell the tale, and I use my story to try and be an inspiration to others; because I believe that is one of the "benefits" of all the things we go through - if not to help another person know they're not alone in their suffering, then what's the point?
Anyway, I have been utilizing the "calm people are breathers", in my own life. It has made as big a change in me, as when in the midst of a sort of manic rant about all that was wrong in my life, my friend figuratively took my face in her hands, and said, "Yes, but what are you grateful for?" (We were on the phone - and she lives across the country.)
Let's all take a deep breath, together, and try to talk TO each other, not AT...let it start with me.

*October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Please share this, no matter what month it is, to help get the word out. The Victim has to make the choice - but, "What If..." they read something you sent them, that makes the difference? #walkinTHEIRshoes
*I will be sharing a "What If..." post on the first Monday, of every month. I would love to share YOUR "what ifs". Please send your "What If..." ideas to Connie J... - firstname.lastname@example.org; or through Ozer, at the website or email, email@example.com.
