#NOMORE Emotional "Leftovers"... (Connie J)
With Thanksgiving being this week, I hear a lot of people talking about leftovers. Be it Grandma's stuffing, or Aunt Dorothy's cranberry relish, leftovers are on everyone's mind.
Have you ever thought about emotional leftovers? They're those feelings that sneak in, either when things are going well, or you're surrounded by happiness for one reason or another. They wiggle their way into your happy thoughts, and can bring you down like the proverbial lead balloon.
When you're a Victim of Domestic Violence, or any kind of abuse, your Holiday plate can be filled and overflowing with a plethora of these leftovers. They appear out of nowhere, and can be triggered by a word, a scent, a thought, or just random. There is no necessary rhyme or reason.
I read this on Facebook, today: "Unless you are a survivor of emotional abuse you have no idea what it means to fight daily battles in your head with a person you no longer have contact with. Verbal, emotional and physical abuse has residual effects on the survivor. You don't just 'Get over it'!"
So, as you're enjoying your Holiday feasting, and leftovers this year, a possible #NOMORE could be to keep an eye on those around you. It's not necessarily the "Most wonderful time of the year" for everyone. Remember, your job is not to "fix" anyone; but maybe just reach out and share a little extra "leftover" joy to someone who needs it.
Have a good day, and be safe... #NOMORE #KNOWMORE
